Can Massage Help Whiplash?
Los Angeles is the home to many rear end accidents. In a rear-ender one of the most common injuries is whiplash. Physicians refer to this as “hyperextension” from getting jerked forward, or a “hyperflexion”, getting jerked backwards.
It is best to get the treatment suggestions from a medical professional. But, generally speaking, whiplash treatment may range from anythin such as ice on the neck to braces and collars. Other people apply heat or take painkillers. While whiplash usually heals on its own, some people do get chronic pain from whiplash. Another treatment option may be massage therapy.
Massage therapy after whiplash
According to WebMD’s page on neck strain, massage may help with symptoms of whiplash.
According to the Institute for Integrative Healthcare, “Insurance companies are slow to recognize massage therapy as a reimbursable medical treatment. One of the exceptions is for massage after an automobile accident. Though there is extra paperwork involved, treating clients with soft tissue injury resulting from an accident can be rewarding in many ways.”
This page on massage after a car accident explains “If you’re sore or injured after a car accident, you may benefit from massage therapy ….. The methods and techniques used will depend on the type and severity of your injuries, but the primary goals of massage therapy are going to be reducing stress, reducing pain and swelling, improving circulation, and improving range of motion.”
