The California Highway Patrol says that 60-year-old Camarillo, California, resident Leon A. Gonzales was driving a Nissan Frontier westbound on SR 118 when he crossed over the double yellow lines directly into the path of 46-year-old Maria Teresa Ceja Rosales’ Chevrolet Avalanche pickup. Police investigators do not believe that Mr. Gonzales had on his seatbelt. He was transported by American Medical Response to Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, California, but doctors were unable to save his life.
According to VC Star, Ms. Rosales was transported by American Medical Response to Adventist Health Simi Valley Hospital. She was complaining about a cut to her left leg, bruises on her left side and pain in her left foot.
Riding with Ms. Rosales were two passengers. In the front passenger seat was 44-year-old Mr. Fidel Posadas Hernandez of Moorpark, California. Mr. Hernandez was transported by American Medical Response to Adventist Health Simi Valley Hospital with complaints of chest pains.
Also riding in the Chevrolet Avalanche was a 10-year-old minor of Moorpark, California. The minor was transported to Adventist Health Simi Valley Hospital by American Medical Response with undisclosed injuries.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident out of their Moorpark, California, office. They are extremely interested in talking to anyone who witnessed this fatal accident. They can be contacted by calling 805-553-0800. They say that speaking to witnesses may help them arrive at a better understanding of what occured in the seconds before the two vehicles collided.
While the California Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation, they were assisted by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and American Medical Response. Authorities were able to get the highway open at approximately 7:15 PM.
