Drunk Driver Kills Uber Passenger in LA Crash
33-year-old Jillian Junia was booked on vehicular manslaughter charges after the BMW she was driving allegedly T-boned a Toyota Prius being driven by an Uber driver in the 5700 block of West Olympic Boulevard in Los Angeles on March 15, 2018. Police closed all lanes of West Olympic Boulevard for about four hours as they cleaned up the accident and investigated it. The accident occurring about 1:35 AM is still under investigation.
According to reports, the woman who was in her twenties who passed away at a nearby hospital was a passenger in the Toyota vehicle, according to Coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. The woman’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The Uber driver was also transported to the hospital, according to Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division.
Police say that the accident occurred when the Uber driver was attempting to turn out of the westbound lane of West Olympic Boulevard when the accident occurred. Jillian was also originally transported to the hospital after being given a breathalyzer test on the scene. Jillian Junia appeared before a judge who set her bond at $50,000.
