Rear-End Collisions Kills Two, Injures Infant
LOS ANGELES (February 28, 2023) – Two people were killed, and two others were injured, including a baby, when a driver ran a red light, crashing into another vehicle at the bottom of an offramp in North Hollywood on Sunday evening.
According to My News LA, a dispatcher at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Operations Center confirmed to the news outlet that a 35-year-old woman was killed in the accident.
The publication reports that Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) spokesman Brian Humphrey said the crash occurred just after 7 p.m. in the 11400 block of Magnolia Boulevard, at the bottom of the State Route 170 offramp close to N. Tujunga Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol told CBS News that the rear-end collision caused one vehicle to overturn and collide with a traffic signal pole. The news outlet showed footage from the scene where one of the two vehicles had completely overturned and was surrounded by debris in the roadway.
Authorities from the LAFD say that a 40-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle that had been rear-ended and had to be freed by rescue crews from the Los Angeles Fire Department using hydraulic-powered tools. They were transported to a nearby trauma center in critical condition and later died.
A 10-month-old child, who was not trapped in the vehicle, was pulled out and taken to the hospital. The infant is expected to survive.
