Riverside Man Killed After Plowing Into a Parked Garbage Truck
RIVERSIDE (January 31, 2023) – A 58-year-old Riverside resident died on Monday afternoon following a car crash in which his vehicle rear-ended a parked garbage truck in a residential neighborhood.
According to reports from KTLA news, the man was operating a grey 2007 Toyota Scion sedan and traveling along the 7500 block of Railroad Avenue, near Winstrom Street, when at around 2:30 p.m., he crashed into the back of a parked city sanitation truck. The driver of the Scion suffered significant injuries, and officials pronounced him dead at the scene.
The city garbage truck driver avoided serious injury, even though he was in the vehicle when the accident occurred.
Drugs and Alcohol Not a Factor in Fatal Riverside Crash
The Press-Enterprise newspaper reports that Ryan Railsback, a Public Information Officer for the Riverside Police Department Community Services Bureau, said that, although the cause of the rear-end collision remains under investigation, alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the accident.
According to NBC Palm Springs, Riverside Police Department Traffic Bureau Sgt. Ryan Taack said that the 2007 Scion sedan was headed westbound “when for unknown reasons, it crossed over into eastbound lanes.”
