Thousand Oaks DUI Crash Ends Tragically for Passengers
In February 2021, a terrible, likely preventable crash occurred on the 101 Freeway in Thousand Oaks, California.
A 58yr old woman was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and vehicular manslaughter.
According to CBS Local, the driver may have drifted off into the fast lane and hit a Chevy SUV, then traveled back into the normal lane and hit yet another vehicle. After hitting multiple vehicles, the KIA drover by the 58yr old crashed their vehicle into a tree. A young man and woman riding as passengers were declared dead at the scene.
We are deeply saddened to learn of this terrible crash.
After a Fatal Crash
People should learn about and understand what a Wrongful Death claim is. One Thousand Oaks injury lawyer has a page explaining this here. In a nutshell, while someone who was intoxicated while driving and killed a loved one may go to jail, this does nothing to help the families. Family members are usually eligible for significant compensation, although the insurance companies aren’t going to tell them about that. While money is the last thing on family member’s mind, they should know that there are time limits on these actions and that awards will help alleviate some of the financial burden.
Prison Time?
As for the driver…. She may end up in jail for a long time. Of course, DUI is a crime in California, and when someone dies due to your drunk driving, you’re looking at a significant sentence.
