Tire Shoots Off Truck and Flips Kia on 118 Freeway
CHATSWORTH (March 27, 2023) –A wild Los Angeles car crash along the 118 Freeway in Chatsworth was caught on video and has since gone viral, according to ABC News Los Angeles.
The incident happened on Thursday, March 23, near the De Soto Avenue exit of the 118 Freeway when a dark-colored Kia was sent flying into the air after being hit by the front-left tire that had come loose from a white pickup truck driving in the adjacent lane.
The heart-pounding video, captured by a dashcam on a Tesla driving behind the Kia, shows the tire detaching from the white pickup truck and rolling underneath the Kia, catapulting it into the air and flipping it. The video, posted to the ABC News website and other news outlets across the globe, shows debris scattered across the freeway.
Car Goes Airborne on Los Angeles Freeway
According to ABC News, a spokesperson with the California Highway Patrol confirmed that the Kia driver suffered minor injuries in the accident. It is believed that sheared-off lug nuts led to the pickup truck’s tire detachment.
The Kia struck the tire and was launched several feet off the roadway, flipping in the air before landing on its roof and rolling several times. The car eventually landed right-side-up as the stray tire continued to roll and strike the rear of the vehicle. The pickup truck rolled across the freeway to the right shoulder before coming to a stop.
No other injuries were reported.
The driver of the Tesla told the news outlet that the single occupant of the Kia appeared to walk away without significant injuries.
