Two Killed and One Injured in High-Speed Los Angeles Collision
LAKE BALBOA (February 9, 2023) – A 45-year-old mother of four was one of two people killed early Wednesday morning following a fatal high-speed collision in the San Fernando Valley.
According to KTLA, the woman, an employee at the Castaic post office, was on her way to work when the driver of a speeding Chevrolet Corvette ran a stop light and slammed into her grey Honda. The fatal car crash occurred around 3:45 a.m. on the 6400 block of North Balboa Boulevard in the Sepulveda Basin.
Sgt. Hector Gutierrez of the Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division told the news outlet that the Corvette had been traveling between 90 and 100 mph at the time of the collision, which left the postal employee’s vehicle completely overturned.
The woman was pronounced dead by first responders at the scene.
On Wednesday night, the woman’s devastated friends and loved ones gathered for a candlelight vigil in her memory.
High-Speed Driver Killed in Los Angeles, Passenger in Critical Condition
Police say the 31-year-old driver of the Corvette died in the hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. A passenger in the vehicle, described as a person in their 20s, is listed in critical condition.
The high-speed Los Angeles car crash was so violent that flying debris shattered about a half dozen windows at nearby businesses and destroyed a large metal strip mall sign. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the crash left two victims trapped in the wreckage. KTLA also reported that bystanders tried to help the accident victims before the first responders arrived.
The fatal car accident is still under investigation, and Los Angeles Police have not yet commented on whether or not drugs or alcohol may have been involved.
