Westlake Village Crash Kills Two Minors
On Tuesday, September 30, 2020, two young brothers were tragically killed after a Westlake Village car crash.
Mark Iskander, 11, and his younger brother Jacob, 9, were with their family crossing the street in a crosswalk between Triunfo Canyon Road and Saddle Mountain Drive in Westlake Village at around 7:10 p.m. when they were struck by a car.
According to CBSLA, one of the boys was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a nearby hospital and died a few hours later.
The family was in a marked crosswalk when the incident occurred. The boys’ mother was able to stop one of her children, who was riding on a Razor scooter, while she had another child in a stroller. The white Mercedes then entered the intersection and hit the two brothers.
The driver in the incident has been identified as 57-year-old Rebecca Grossman, who has been arrested on two counts of vehicular manslaughter. She is currently being held on $2 million bail.
Grossman is a founding board member of the Grossman Burn Foundation, who helps burn victims worldwide receive treatment. The Los Angeles Times did not receive immediate comment from the Grossman Burn Foundation.
Authorities have stated that Grossman was under the influence at the time. It is unclear whether excessive speed was a factor, though residents have stated that the intersection in question is a common area for speeding.
Another car was speeding toward the family at the time of the accident, but little information has been obtained as of yet. Those with information are encouraged to contact the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s station’s traffic investigation team.
